La scansione laser e la fotogrammetria sono tecniche di rilievo spesso complementari che permettono di studiare con accuratezza un manufatto architettonico, un reperto archeologico, l’andamento del terreno, un ipogeo. E’ una tecnica di rilievo che consente di definire dimensione, forma e posizione di oggetti a partire da almeno due immagini fotografiche dello stesso oggetto riprese da punti diversi.
La fotogrammetria aerea viene utilizzata sovente per produrre carte topografiche; la camera viene posta su un aero o su un Sistema Aereo a Pilotaggio Remoto (SAPR), ovvero un drone.
